Togus Pond Buffer Workshop

Augusta, Maine – A hands-on shoreline buffer planting at Togus Pond helped launch broader shoreline stabilization efforts.

At the request of the Worromontogus Lake Association (WLA), Ecological Instincts delivered a shoreline buffer workshop at Togus Pond to help raise awareness about the many benefits of planting native vegetative buffers. The 2-hour workshop included a 1-hour presentation about the various benefits of vegetative buffers, the importance of using native plants, how to build a resilient buffer through thoughtful plant selection and site planning, and outlined methods for proper installation and maintenance. Following Q&A and a native plant give-away sponsored by WLA, attendees helped plant a variety of hardy and visually attractive native plants at the WLA boat launch to serve as a demonstration area for its members.

Funding for the buffer workshop was provided in part through a US EPA Section 319(h) grant in partnership with Kennebec County Soil & Water Conservation District (grantee).
